We are going to publish 6 books a year until the whole world has heard the stories, voices and ideas of the North West of England
We don't care about genres and trends.
We care about work that
makes people turn the page.

Submissions accepted from August 1st
We want Cumbrians, Lancastrians, Mancunians and Liverpudlians of every variety to send us quality manuscripts that will delight open-minded people the world over.
The stories can be about the North West, written by people born in the North West or who live, study and work in the North West.
Fantasy Sci-fi novel about a sausage roll in a black hole? Send it in.
The bloody romance between a bare knuckle boxer and his fiercest opponent? We will read every manuscript.

Why Barrow-in-Furness?
The Furnace must serve the needs of the community that we call home.
We know there’s a wealth of writing talent in the town and will make it our priority to find it
We are building on solid foundations
Julie Tait and Emma Dickens can see a world saturated with talented and brilliant people, but with many of them hidden from view and blocked by lack of opportunity.
Bringing up their families in Cumbria they have seen many people trek south to London to start or further careers, and have dreamed of building opportunities closer by.
With full funding for the first year and additional support from local partners, they are ready to make sure that aspiring authors can achieve their ambitions.

Stay in the loop.
